5 Simple Steps: Install A Toilet Flange Extender

Installing a toilet flange extender is a quick way to correct toilet flange elevation. By following these five simple steps, you can have your toilet flange sorted in no time.

Plus, using a toilet flange extender is much cheaper and less time consuming than having to rework existing plumbing.

Foam Gasket

First, put the foam gasket on your existing flange. Make sure the gasket is centered and flush with the top of the flange.

Spacers

Next, determine spacer size or combination of spacers to correct the flange height. Spacers come in sizes of 1/8″, 1/4″, 1/2″, or 3/4″.

For example, if your flange is 1/4″ low, you would use two 1/8″ spacers. If your flange is 3/4″ low, you would use one 1/2″ spacer and two 1/4″ spacers.

Once you’ve set on the right size(s), place the spacers on-top of the foam gasket to elevate the new flange to the proper height.

Extender

Fit the yellow extender on-top of the red spacers and align with the spacers below. The extender should be flush with the top of the spacers.

Assembly

The extender is securely fastened using six stainless steel screws (provided in the kit). Using a power drill, screw the stainless steel until they are snug.

Do not over-tighten as this may damage or break the extender. If you’re using a hand screwdriver, make sure to alternate between screws to ensure even distribution.

Wax Ring

Lastly, place a standard wax ring and set the toilet using johni-bolts. The flange extender does not come with a wax ring, so you’ll need to purchase this separately.
